In the sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church, a reverent and joyful service combines of Scripture, music (including our thirty-four rank pipe organ and grand piano), song, prayer, dedication of our gifts, time with young disciples, proclamation, affirmation of faith, and monthly celebration of the Lord's Supper. Our hymns and anthems are of traditional and contemporary styles, enhanced occasionally by arrangements of African-American spirituals, "revival-type" Gospel songs, psalms set to music, and recently written spiritual songs. These elements of worship serve a dual purpose: (1) to glorify God; and, (2) by God's grace, to assist our growth in faith for serving as disciples of Jesus Christ in today's world.
